The Distance Between

2013, MDF, Paint, Etching, 60 x 5 x 24 Inches

From Myself, Others & Objects installation

The Distance Between is a sculpture from a body of work titled Myself, Objects and Others, shown at The Royal College of Art in London. It is at a height that the viewer needs to look slightly down onto it. It stands in the corner and creates a confined space between the viewer and the corner. The face is at an angle to represent a tourist viewing a landscape. The image is originally a polaroid transformed into a photo etching, of a fire hose box. It speaks of the safety of the space inside the box, one that protects. In contrast because it is is contained and the door of the box is locked, it gives a sense of inaccessibility.
